Restaurants in Sliema and St Julian’s

Where to eat in Sliema and St Julian’s

There is certainly no shortage of bars and restaurants in St Julian’s and Sliema! Here are a list of the ones we recommend:

Ta Kris Restaurant in Sliema

Ta Kris is a traditional restaurant situated instead of one of the oldest and largest bakeries in the Sliema area. The restaurant features also old coloured Maltese tiles and warm shaded walls, dark Maltese furniture. There are also a small number of tables outside for al fresco dining.

The menus offer a mixture of traditional Maltese cuisine and Mediterranean dishes. We loved the Pasta Maltese (maltese sausage, tomato sauce, peppers, onions and a hint of cream). For such a highly rated restaurant, the prices are very reasonable starting from €12 for a main dish.

Hammetts Gastrobar in Sliema

Hammetts Gastro Bar offers Asian fusion cuisine in slick, sophisticated surroundings. Start off with 2-4-1 happy hour on cocktails until 6.30pm and then tuck into a few plates to share.

We loved the:

  • CHAR SIU PORK BAO
  • SIU MAI (prawn & pork)
  • KFC: korean fried cauliflower, sesame & soy glaze
  • KOREAN BBQ: beef rump, gochujang bbq sauce, grill cucumber kimchi

Dishes range from around €8-15 and 4/5 dishes are ample to share.

Vecchia Napoli

Vecchia Napoli is a relaxed pizza restaurant in Sliema offering delicious wood fired pizza, pasta and salad. There are plenty of pizzas on the menu priced between €7 and €15.

We had the Pizza Burrata e Nduja: Tomato sauce, spicy ‘Nduja, basil leaves, fresh burrata and Grana Padano and Maialone: Tomato sauce, mozzarella fior di latte, salsiccia Calabrese, smoked ham and Maltese sausage.

Great place for lunch!

Naar Restobar

Situated right on Balluta Bay is Naar Restobar with a gorgeous al fresco setting.

Cocktails are top notch and they have happy hour all week with 241 on selected cocktails. They also offer a bottomless weekend brunch with breakfast and unlimited cocktails and prosecco!

Food wise, there are small and larger plates – we loved the bao buns and chicken skewers.

Trattoria Del Mare

Trattoria Del Mare is an al fresco restaurant situated alongside Sliema promenade. It’s a beautiful spot for a drink, lunch or dinner. We stopped off for an aperol spritz and the most delicious cannoli I have ever had!

The Compass Lounge

Situated by the seafront is café and bar, The Compass Lounge. We took advantage of their happy hour which is from 11am to 6pm with 241 cocktails.

Peperoncino

Peperoncino is a gem of a restaurant in St Julian’s, just before the curve into Sliema, with a gorgeous outside area overlooking the harbour and a rustic interior décor.

The staff were very attentive and helpful without being too overbearing. There were some amazing looking dishes on the menu – we loved the Ravoli with asparagus and broccoli from the Specials menu and the Duck Breast cooked in red wine and juniper berries, served with julienne of sweet and sour carrots & courgettes.
