Things to do in Playa Blanca
Playa Blanca, Lanzarote
We stayed at the 5 star H10 Rubicon Palace which is situated a 45 minute drive from the airport in Playa Blanca. Using the boardwalk at the rear of the hotel you can reach the centre of Playa Blanca in around 40 minutes. This blog posts gives you ideas of things to do in Playa Blanca as well as tips for other areas in Lanzarote.
Things to do in Playa Blanca
The entire area is Playa Blanca (around 9km bay) which is split up into three smaller bays. Until quite recently, Playa Blanca was a small fishing village. It’s now more built up but not too much so its certainly not a tacky tourist destination. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes and bars along the boardwalk and down side streets. You can also catch the ferry to Fuerteventura from the port.
Flamingo Beach
One of the nicest beaches in Playa Blanca is Flamingo Beach. With a laid back atmosphere, Playa Flamingo is a family favourite – the water is pretty calm, there are hammocks, sun loungers, parasols and a seafront promenade with shops and restaurants.
Playa Dorada
Playa Dorada is known for its calm and clear seas so ideal for families and children. It has a wide range of facilities, including hammocks and parasols to hire, restaurants and beach bars, as well as a great seafront promenade. I didn’t notice a large selection of restaurants but you can grab a bite from Marina Rubicon (see below) which is only a 10 minute walk. It is also quite sheltered from the winds so is ideal for water sports such as kayaking and jet skiing.
Marina Rubicon
Marina Rubicon is almost like a little village area with restaurants and shops as well as a diving centre and sailing school. There is also a market every Wednesday and Saturday from 9-2pm along the seafront promenade. There is a mixture of crafts, souvenirs, clothes and fresh produce. It’s nothing special so I wouldn’t recommend going out your way to visit just for the market but it’s a nice area.
We had a delicious alfresco lunch at Cafe Berrugo which is situated within the marina. There are lots of tapas dishes to choose from – the padron peppers, patatas bravas and croquettas were all tasty.
At the end of Marina Rubicon there are steps which lead up to a gorgeous walk overlooking the sea. You can view Castillo o Torre del Aguila which was the only defensive structure built in the south of Lanzarote.
Other places to visit in Lanzarote
Unfortunately we weren’t able to visit any of these places due to our cheeky 15 month old but these came recommended by others:
- Timanfaya National Park – there is a half day to the park available via trip advisor for less than £30 including a wine tasting!
- Papagayo Beaches – you can get a boat from Marina Rubicon
- Mirador del Rio viewpoint – this is right at the North of the island so you will need a car if you’re staying in Playa Blanca
