Hotel in Queenstown
Surprisingly, there are not that many hotels in Queenstown within walking distance of the centre. The few that are close by were priced at £200-300 a night which was a little pricey for us. However, there are some reasonably priced lodges outside the centre overlooking the beautiful lakes and mountains but we didn’t want to have to rely on taxis.
We therefore stayed at the Ramada Hotel in Queenstown, which was situated just a 10 minute walk from the town. Whilst Uber operates in Queenstown, it is not allowed to pick off / drop off at the airport. A metered taxi to the Ramada is around $50-60 which is fairly expensive for a 15 minute journey or there is an airport shuttle which starts from $10pp.
The hotel only opened in September 2019 so we visited when it was just 4 months old. The staff were very friendly on check in and were kind in giving us an upgrade to a studio apartment as a birthday treat.
Our studio apartment was modern and, as expected, felt very fresh and new. It came equipped with a hob, toaster, microwave, utensils, dishwasher and washing machine and tumble dryer. There was fresh milk and UHT milk in the fridge as well as tea, coffee, hot chocolate.
We were impressed with our stay at the Ramada Hotel in Queenstown which allowed us to explore the town on foot. The walk back from town is uphill but it’s good to get some exercise! The cheapest hotel room is around £120 per night with studio apartments from £150 per night. The Ramada also offers one and two bedroom apartments and a penthouse.
