Cafes and Restaurants in Phu Quoc

There are so many great cafes and restaurants in Phu Quoc on Long Beach within a 20 minute walk of our hotel. Here are the ones I visited:

Cassia Cottage – The Spice House

The Spice House is a fantastic restaurant in Phu Quoc within the boutique hotel, Cassia Cottage, situated on Long Beach. We had read so many great things about Cassia Cottage in blogs that we actually visited for a Christmas Eve Gala Dinner ($99 pp)!

The setting right by the beach is beautiful and we could not have asked for more for our Christmas meal. From 7-8pm they had free flowing aperol spritz, prosecco, white and red wine accompanied by a number of canapes.

At 8pm you dined at your own table literally on the sand with an AMAZING buffet running from 8-10pm. There were the following stations: Salad Bar, Live Station Counter, Seafood Extravaganza on Ice, Bread Counter, Carvery, BBQ and Hot Station, Cheese Board, Desserts and Coffee and Tea. Sounds unreal, right?!

The winning dishes for us were the serrano ham, tiger prawns, Roast Phu Quoc Baby Pork, Rib Eye Steak, Cassia Chicken Curry and the passionfruit cheesecake. The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful – a real gala dinner!

If that wasn’t enough, they had a traditional dragon dance and a live band throughout the evening. If the food at the gala dinner was anything to go by, you will have an amazing meal at The Spice House.

Saigonese Eatery

Saigonese Eatery is one of the most popular restaurants in Phu Quoc. Located on Long Beach around 15 minutes from our hotel. You can book online through their Facebook page if there are 4 or more of you dining. As there were just 2 of us, we queued outside for around 20 minutes. You pop your name down on a list and wait to be called.

There are a small number of seats outside and then two rooms inside, the last one adorned with plants which was a nice touch.

The one-page menu is concise but still offers several starters and main courses. We shared the following dishes:

• Deep fried sticky rice with pork and onion stuffing (￡3)
• Chicken and Pork steamed buns (￡3)
• Hot wings and pickles (￡2.5)
• Pan seared duck breast with pepper sauce and roasted vegetable (￡7)

Saigonese Eatery is so worth the wait and deserves to be on of the best restaurants in Phu Quoc. The setting, service and quality of the dishes was fantastic yet was still reasonably priced.

HD Coffee

HD Coffee is a café situated on a rooftop just a few minutes’ walk from our hotel. The interiors are colourful and cosy and it’s a great place to have lunch. You must try their non alcoholic mojito section with tons of varieties. The Blueberry Mojito (1.20) was so refreshing!

Food wise, they have plenty of local options and a handful of Western options. We had the:

• Ga Ran (fried chicken) (￡1)
• Banh mi Xiu Mai (Vietnamese meatballs with bread) (￡1.20)
• Banh Gao Xao Thit Bo (Beef Tokbokki) (￡1.20).

HD Coffee has a great selection of affordable dishes in lovely surroundings.

La Cafe Deli

Situated just across from our hotel was such a cute café serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. They have lots of potted plants dotted around and hanging from the ceiling filling the café with bursts of colour.

The café offers takeaway dishes (we were heading on a day trip) and packaged up muesli, yoghurt and fresh fruit as well as a Nutella and banana toastie (both under 2)! There is a friendly young boy who works at the café who will help you with your order!

Ganesh Indian Restaurant

Ganesh is an Indian restaurant in Phu Quoc with branches also in mainland Vietnam. We were recommended the restaurant by two sets of people so decided to fulfil some Indian food cravings! Cocktails and wine are priced at 3, with beer at 2.

They offer a large selection of main dishes, which a focus on curries. Of course, we started off with Papadams (50p) served with dressings (sadly not mango chutney). Appetizer wise, they have traditional dishes including Samosa’s, Onion Bhaji and Chicken Pakora.

Main wise, we opted for the Gansesh House Special with boneless pieces of chicken in a rich north Indian style curry sauce with cashew nuts and eggs and the Chicken Korma Kashmiri cooked with garlic, coconut and a medium curry sauce (both 4.5). Accompanying our curries was a HUGE garlic naan bread (1 between 2 is absolutely sufficient) it was bigger than my face!

The portions as a whole were large, and service was friendly. Ganesh is definitely worth a visit if you are craving Indian food in Phu Quoc.

Dinh Cau Phu Quoc

Luckily for us, our hotel was right by the night market, Dinh Cau Phu Quoc. The market was buzzing with a number of souvenir stalls, fresh fruit and lots of local specialties, both hot and cold. Many of the stalls sold street food for around 1 (seafood generally is more expensive) so we had meat skewers, Vietnamese pizza (!) and coconut ice cream served in a coconut!

Just wander around and take it all in. The reasonable prices mean you can try dishes you wouldn’t normally and see what you like best!

Buddy Café

Buddy Café (used to be called Amanda cafe) is located near Dinh Cau Rock and offers a wide selection of local and western dishes. With seating both inside and outside, the café certainly seemed popular when we visited.

This was our only western meal in Phu Quoc and I couldn’t resist a ham and cheese toasted sandwich (2). We also had a Vietnamese beef steak and fried egg bahn mi (3). If you have a sweet tooth, definitely save room for their ice cream.
