Coco Bongo Playa Del Carmen

The Tickets

When we told by our friends and family we were coming to Mexico, almost everyone told us to go to Coco Bongo. Given the glowing recommendations, and our penchant for a good night out, we couldn’t resist!

Coco Bongo is a nightclub come theatre which hosts around 25 shows per night in between bursts of music. The original Coco Bongo was established in Cancun and they now have venues in Playa del Carmen and the Dominican Republic.

The Coco Bongo in Playa del Carmen is located in the town centre. Transport to and from your hotel is included in your ticket price. They picked us up around 9:45pm and collected us at 3:30am so be prepared for a big night!

There are two types of ticket:

  • Standard which is around US$75, which gets you entrance and an open bar
  • Gold which is around US$145 per person (usually slightly cheaper Mondays – Thursdays) which gets you queue jump, entrance, a seat in the upper sections near the stage and table service for the open bar drinks.

We went for the Gold ticket and it was definitely worth it. The queue for standard entrance was massive and it was great to have a seat next to the shows.

The Show!

We arrived around 10:30pm and the shows started around 11:30pm and were pretty continuous until 2:30am after which a DJ played until 3am. The shows were great and alternated between action / circus type shows. These were themed around various characters e.g. Spartan, Batman, Spiderman. There were also comedy skits and tribute acts including Michael Jackson, Madonna, Beyonce and Guns ‘n’ Roses. Everyone gets involved including the audience and bar staff! It was a really different and highly enjoyable night out.
