Restaurants in Lyon

Set out below are some great restaurants in Lyon that we visited during our weekend!

Les Cafetiers

We had a fantastic brunch at Les Cafetiers in the first arrondissement only a 5 minute walk from Mercure Beaux Arts. It reminded me of some of the lovely brunch cafes in East London and has a lovely courtyard area at the front and back.

We had the Avocado & Dukkah Toast with tahini and feta which was just beautiful (€9). There was such a generous amount of avocado and the feta went very well with the dish. We also tried the Bowl Du Moment (€6) with fruits of the season, granola, pine nuts and some delicious puree.

L’Institution

We visited L’Institution which is situated on Rue Republique, only a 10 minute walk from Mercure Beaux Arts. We booked through The Fork (Europe’s version of Open Table) with 30% off the a la carte menu food. To start we had the most amazing gin fizz which was presented in a large gin balloon glass with berries. It was the best one I have ever tasted( €13).

The starters are priced at €15.90 and the main dishes are €24.90. The latter are split in meat, fish and vegetarian dishes. The fish included salmon steak and roasted cod but we opted for the meat. We had an Entrecote black Angus with béarnaise sauce and French fries and a Veal escalope with fresh green beans Unfortunately my steak with a little tough and overdone. However, the béarnaise and thin fries were fantastic! We were impressed with the veal which was a large portion and very tender.

For dessert we shared a crème br?lée which was absolutely amazing and very light and creamy. We were impressed with the service at the restaurant and they have a gorgeous terrace area at the front. They also have a brasserie menu which is slightly cheaper than the à la carte menu offering a starter and main course for €28.50. Definitely look out for the deals on The Fork to make your visit a little cheaper!

Chez M’man

Close to Place Bellacour on Rue Marronniers are several local restaurants and bouchons. We visited Chez M’man bouchon which was bustling!

They offered a very reasonably priced €15 3 course menu for lunch with over 10 choices for starters and mains. We did not want to spoil our dinner so just ended up with one course. We had the Saucisson Chaud Pistache & potatoes with garlic cheese which was pretty tasty! This was from the fixed menu and was only €9 on its own. The Assortment of Charcuterie was also very impressive and HUGE (€11.50). The meats were rosette, terrine and jambon cru served with a large salad and crusty bread.

Aux 24 Colonnes

Situated in the Old Town is an intimate and friendly restaurant in Lyon, Aux 24 Colonnes. The menu changes daily with 3 courses priced at €30. For our entree we opted for the Saucisson Brioche “Bobosse” which was almost a posh sausage roll! The sausage was full of flavour and we loved the brioche.

For mains we tried the Duck with pommes de terre and the Pork with mustard sauce. Both dishes were generously sized and the sauce with the pork was delicioius. The duck was a little fatty for our liking but probably how it is usually served!

The tarte citron for dessert was absolutely amazing. It was literally melt in your mouth delicious. We were also impressed with the soupe de fraises which was a like melted raspberry sorbet. The serviuce was lovely and with a couple of drinks the bill came to around €80.

Tete Doie

Tete Doie is one of the best restaurants in Lyon! It is situated on a hill on the way to the Notre Dame and offers stunning views of the City.

For a Michelin starred restaurant, the dinner is reasonably priced at €48 for three courses. For entrees we had the Hake with zucchinis and radish which was served cold and was a good choice for a light starter. The burrata, tomatoes and roquette was absolutely delicious!

For our main dish we both opted for the duck with broccoli and blackcurrant which was exquisite. The blackcurrant was a beautiful accompaniment and brought out the flavour of the duck well.

Lastly, for dessert we had the most AMAZING chocolate slice. It was rich, smooth and had elements with a crunch which just added to the texture.
