Bars in Lyon

Read on for some of the bars in Lyon I visited on my trip.

Volle Petrol

Volle Petrol is a barge on the river offering alfresco drinks on a large terrace. As it was a sunny day, there wasn’t any space left outside so we sat inside on the bar stalls overlooking the river. There were over 80 different lagers / ales to choose from including Trappistes, Ambrees, Brunes, Blanches and Blondes. We had a pilsner and a glass of rose wine which came to just under 10 Euros.

The bar also offers tapas style snacks including nachos and patatas bravas. I would definitely recommend Volle Petrol for the outside terrace area, relaxed atmosphere by the river and good happy hours with friendly staff.

The Barge

The Barge is also moored on the river and is popular with locals and tourists lapping up the alfresco drinking! We visited the barge at around 6 PM where it was surprisingly fairly quiet compared to Volle Petrol. It is split into two tiers and we managed to nab a table on the top floor.

You can order your drinks through your phone or down by the bar. We opted for two glasses of rosé which were €8. Another lovely bar by the river!

Villa Maia

As we were dining at Tete Dois, we had to visit the bar at neighbour, Villa Maia, situated on a hilltop with amazing views. The five star hotel is unsurprisingly stunning with gorgeous decor throughout.

We sat outside in the garden area which felt private and special. Sadly there were no cocktails on offer as the member of staff was on leave but we sipped on two glasses of fantastic champagne accompanied by some snacks. Given the surroundings it was a more expensive venue but it is certainly one of the best bars in Lyon!

Bar Le Florian

Bar Le Florian is a gorgeous cocktail bar based in Vieux Lyon with an intimate speakeasy feel. We loved the Piscasso Sour which was the bar’s version of a Pisco Sour with Acidule, Vanille and Amer. It was such a creative cocktail with a blue and red liquid pen for drawing patterns.

Les Ber Thom

For the beer lovers, this is another great beer house in Lyon! It is quite a small and intimate bar with a wide selection of beers on offer. Happy hours during the week so don’t miss out! We had a beer and kir royale for

€10 which were also served with some chilli nuts.
